Arie + Cake Smash Session

March 31, 2022

Arie + Cake Smash Session

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I shot Arie’s newborn photos! She’s just as sweet as she was then. Even though she was a little overwhelmed by getting her picture taken, she did so well and LOVED her cake! She was absolutely adorable eating it with her tiny fingers.

If you’ve never done a cake smash session, here are a few tips:

  1. Lower your expectations! For most babies, this is a new environment and they aren’t used to having a big camera in their face. I’m guessing you don’t just give them a full cake to tear into on the regular, so they might not be too interested in it at first.
  2. Bring lots of baby wipes! Most cake smash sessions don’t get too messy, but baby wipes are the best for cleaning up afterwards.
  3. Bring extra outfits. I recommend 1-2 outfits for these sessions, but don’t forget a clean one for the ride home!
  4. You don’t need a fancy smash cake. You only need a small cake, about 6 inches. This client got hers at Harmon’s bakery for $8!
  5. Book in advance! Book 2-3 months before you want to shoot. My turnaround time is 1-2 weeks, so take that into consideration if you want the photos printed for baby’s first birthday party.

I’d LOVE to photograph your little one! Please contact me to book and you can see more of my recent work on Instagram.

These were taken in October last year, but it’s so green and gorgeous right now. There’s even some scattered wildflowers! The flowers won’t last long, so don’t miss out.
